Epsom is a town established in the borough of Epsom and Ewell in Surrey, England. Epsom is situated 26 km south-southwest of Charing Cross in the Greater London Urban Area. The town lays on the chalk downland in the valley of Epsom Downs. The town houses the eponymous racecourse which holds the world-famous Epsom Derby each year. Epsom is close to the world famous Epsom Downs Racecourse which features two of the 5 English Classic horse races, the Derby and the Oaks. Historically, Epsom was known as a spa town while there is not much to see nowadays apart from a water pump. There were entertainments at the Assembly Rooms.

Epsom Clock Tower was constructed in the year 1847 substituting the watch house which stood from the 17th century and was constructed to 70 feet of red and Suffolk brick with heraldic lions of Caen Stone at the four corners of the tower base. A bell was added in 1867. A shopping mall, Ashley Centre was established in the early 1980 and later on parts of the high street were prosaic as part of edifice of the town's one-way system. The town has a small local museum, Bourne Hall Museum with some fascinating exhibits. There are numerous chain restaurants in the centre of town but on Epsom Downs by the racecourse, there are two pubs which provide good food at reasonable prices.
